Dr. Mark S. Freudenberger is the Director of the Land Tenure and Property Rights Sector for Tetra Tech ARD and was the former Chief of Party for the USAID’s Property Rights and Resource Governance project implemented by Tetra Tech ARD. He brings to this position over 30 years of field experience in natural resource management in Sahelian West Africa and Madagascar. Tenure and resource management issues have long been the focus of his work in Africa. Dr. Freudenberger previously resided in Madagascar for 11 years, managing USAID eco-regional conservation and development programs. While a senior social scientist for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington DC, he led a population-environment program and launched the first field studies on the social and ecological impacts of diamond mining in national parks of the Central African Republic. During his five-year tenure at the Land Tenure Center of the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Freudenberger pioneered the use of RRA/PRA tools to analyze the evolution of tenure institutions in Senegal, The Gambia, and Guinea.
