The effects of COVID-19 on beef consumer preferences and beliefs in Colombia: A logit model approach

December, 2020
Colombia

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought impacts on the food system in several ways, such as on the supply and demand of food or changes in consumer preferences. However, little is known yet about these effects but needs to be analyzed to define actions and policies for crisis mitigation and achieving food system resilience and food security.

Public–private partnership generates economic benefits to smallholder bean growers in Uganda

December, 2022
Uganda

The quest to transform and hasten the role of smallholder farms in agricultural development and food security through farmer firm linkages has dominated development interventions in low-income countries for several decades. This has mostly been pursued through single- or multi-contract schemes implemented in isolation. Several studies have analyzed the efects of these schemes on smallholder farms with mixed results. A new paradigm is to use Agricultural Public Private Partnership (Ag-PPP) to achieve wider and sustainable impacts.

Edible crickets (Orthoptera) around the world: distribution, nutritional value, and other benefits - a review

December, 2020
Tanzania

Edible crickets are among the praised insects that are gaining recognition as human food and livestock feed with a potential of contributing to food security and reduction of malnutrition. Globally, the sustainable use of crickets as food or feed is undermined by lack of information on the number of the edible crickets, the country where they are consumed, and the developmental stages consumed. Furthermore, lack of data on their nutritional content and the potential risks to potential consumers limits their consumption or inclusion into other food sources.

Willingness to pay for quality traits and implications for sweetpotato variety breeding: case of Mozambique

December, 2022
Mozambique

Despite decades of research and dissemination of improved sweetpotato varieties, uptake at scale remains low and envisaged development goals of food security and livelihoods remain elusive. This is despite demonstrated impacts of such technologies in combating food and nutrition insecurity, amidst global challenges like climate change.

December, 2020
Global

This seminar launched the course on the RTB Toolbox for Working with Root, Tuber and
Banana Seed Systems, covering 12 tools for studying and documenting these systems
(https://tools4seedsystems.org/). The online seminar was held for two hours a day (26, 28
and 29 July 2021) and was attended by between 85 and 134 participants from 26 to 39
countries. The Toolbox originally included a set of 11 tools and a glossary, but in this seminar

Stakeholder engagement in gender and climate change policy processes: Lessons from CCAFS

December, 2020
Netherlands

With the rapid increase in the dynamics caused by climate change, policies governing climate change have proliferated while the integration of gender considerations to address the gender-differentiated needs and impacts has remained a challenge. Stakeholder engagement is touted as a critical ingredient in climate change decisions and governance at different levels. However, detailed methods and outcomes of gender-responsive stakeholder engagement processes for climate change policy development are rarely published.

Climate change impacts on food security and nutrition of India: Foresight analysis

December, 2022
India

Agriculture is a significant and primary sector of the Indian economy and is crucial for ensuring the food, nutrition, and livelihood security of about 80% of the population. Even though India has achieved ‘selfsufficiency’ in food grains production through Green Revolution, it faces challenges like loss of soil fertility, waterlogging, ground, and surface water pollution, intensified pests and diseases, increased farm input prices, and regional disparity (Cummings, 2019).

Parasitoid complex of fall armyworm, spodoptera frugiperda, in Ghana and Benin

December, 2019

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, a moth originating from the American continent, has recently invaded most African countries, where it is seriously threatening food security as a pest of cereals. The current management methods rely heavily on the use of synthetic insecticides but there is a need for more sustainable control methods, including biological control. Surveys were conducted in two West African countries, Ghana and Benin, to determine the native parasitoid complex and assess parasitism rates of S. frugiperda. Samples of S.

Drivers of food and nutrition security during the lean period in southeastern Madagascar

December, 2022
Madagascar

The rural population in southeastern Madagascar faces widespread poverty and weak resilience to frequent climate shocks, both contributing to severe food and nutrition insecurity. For effective policy responses and tailored interventions, development stakeholders need to know which factors determine household food and nutrition security status. In particular, the relative contributions of on-farm production diversity versus cash income are of importance since they would suggest different intervention priorities.

Food composition table of selected local tree species in Burkina Faso. Version 1

December, 2021
Burkina Faso

Food composition tables (FCT) inform on the nutritional composition of foods consumed and are an essential resource for understanding and analyzing dietary intake data related to both individuals and communities, and for developing healthy recipes and food products. They are a fundamental piece of knowledge to support interventions related to improving nutrition, health, and food security in all contexts.
