El Gobierno Territorial Autónomo de la Nación Wampis (GTANW) ejerce su autonomía de hecho, sin expreso dictamen de la normativa interna sino basándose en el Convenio 169 de la OIT. De esta forma ejercen el control de su territorio, la cual una parte está titulada y la otra no; las áreas no tituladas son de uso y ocupación ancestral y que han sido aprovechadas y cuidadas por los Wampis.

A comunidade sertaneja de Forquilha está localizada entre os rios Paraíba e Balsas, município de Benedito Leite, Estado do Maranhão - Brasil. Formou-se no início do século XX, por causa da fartura de peixes e das terras férteis das margens dos rios, em pleno Cerrado. A comunidade, hoje conta com 19 Famílias em uma área de aproximadamente 504 hectares, que se auto identificam como sertanejos.

Land degradation has been a major political issue in Java for decades. Its causes have generally been framed by narratives focussing on farmers’ unsustainable cultivation practices. This paper causally links land degradation with struggles over natural resources in Central Java. It presents a case study that was part of a research project combining remote sensing and political ecology to explore land use/cover change and its drivers in the catchment of the Segara Anakan lagoon.

Indonesia comprises more mangroves than any other country, but also exhibits some of the highest mangrove loss rates worldwide. Most of these mangrove losses are caused by aquaculture development. Monetary valuation of the numerous ecosystem services of mangroves may contribute to their conservation.

This shift should be from focusing exclusively on transferring communal land to traditional leaders, Common Property Institutions and private individuals, to recognising and accommodating existing forms of social tenure.
