This Act provides with respect to local government and selected matters of local development and planning in Ghana. It, among other things, provides for the creation of district assemblies, metropolitan assemblies, district planning authorities, the Local Government Service, the District Assemblies Common Fund, Regional Co-ordinating Councils, and the Inter-Ministerial Co-ordinating Committee on Decentralisation. For purposes of Local governance, the districts in existence immediately before the commencement of this Act shall continue to exist.

This multi-lateral Program for the Development of the Regions to 2020 shall be applicable to the whole national territory and shall have as objectives creation of conditions for development of social and economic potential of regions, formation of rational territorial organization of the country, stimulation of population and capital in the centers of economic growth, improvement of territorial land-use planning, and efficient and rational provision of the population with potable water.

This Act, consisting of 25 sections, establishes the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board. This Law, consisting of 24 sections, creates the Punjab Women Protection Authority. It establishes necessary provisions for a comprehensive, efficient, effective and gender equitable system for protection, relief and rehabilitation of women against all forms of violence in the Punjab; to control, monitor, and oversee that system; and, to deal with related matters.

The National Strategy on Gender Equality and Domestic Violence 2007-2010 is a multi-sectoral policy laying down the approaches and institutional mechanisms for mainstreaming gender issues into public policies, easing gender-based differences and preventing domestic violence.

This Act provides for the establishment of subordinate courts to the High Court in each District, and provides with respect to the jurisdiction, proceedings and administration of such courts. There shall be three classes of subordinate courts for each District. Subordinate courts may transfer proceedings at any stage to a Local Court.

The overall impact that the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) seeks to make is captured in the people’s vision for development and is stated as follows: “A future where individual, community, business and government partnerships contribute to a sustainable quality of life for all Nauruans”.The five long-term goals for Nauru remain unchanged from the 2005 NSDS.

This Act sets forth procedures and principles of acquiring any land by the Government for public purposes. The acquisition of lands for public purposes shall only be made by the declaration of the Governor General. In addition, the Governor General may authorize officers for a preliminary survey or other investigation of the land, for the purchase of the land, for setting the borders of the acquired land, and for gathering information. The Governor General may state a decision for the abandonment of acquisition at any time before any land has been acquired compulsorily.
